Alberta offers numerous tax credit incentives and funding opportunities for local entrepreneurs focused on research and development projects. With the creation of the new Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund, being an entrepreneur in Alberta just became even better:
Who is eligible for the Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund?
Germany and Alberta have launched a call for proposals for the new Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with R&D projects ‘focused on developing innovative products, technology-based services and technology methods and applications with strong market potential’ can now jointly apply.
The Alberta Ministry for Enterprise and Advanced Education (EAE) and German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi)’s recently launched the collaborative fund to help SMEs become more globally competitive through developing technology and leveraging key resources between both countries. On the Alberta side, approved R&D projects are eligible to receive up to $250,000.
How would this affect my SR&ED claim?
Eligible companies who are using the grant money for the development of their technology and technological advancement will not be able to include this funding in their SR&ED expenditure pool. However, if the grant is provided for market penetration, such as marketing, sales, client demos, materials, etc., then the grant will not reduce the SR&ED expenditure pool.
How do I apply?
Interested SME’s are invited to jointly apply before January 31, 2014. The joint application form can be found online here.
